Perception of Leadership and Followership

Impression of Leadership and Followership Authority and followership have a similar coin yet unique face that we live by from the second were conceived. Being on one of them doesn't mean youre just on that side, you can be an adherent with your boss and an innovator in your own life. The two ideas have an expansive importance and can't be balanced into a short range or to a particular circumstance. By the by, the connection between them are interminable and neither one of them can make due without the other. Additionally, at whatever point the authority is setting a commendable job, the devotee will catch up precisely at a similar level or if nothing else the larger part will do. In spite of the fact that, there is a connection between them, yet it is consistently the administration that has obligations to make changes, developments, and success in the general public. Moreover, there is a slim line among them and that line must be perceived by both side to guarantee that rational parity is consistently present. For instance, pioneers now and then neglect to force balance for all the devotees under their duty because of the general framework that has a restriction for them to recognize that equity hole. Moreover, for this situation, its better that a supporter ventures up to administration and point out that hole and act precisely to close it by the correct methods. I feel that there is consistently a lot of futile territory among administration and followership that can be loaded up with eagerness, enthusiasm, and profitability. My family legacy and foundation have enormously impacted my impression of initiative in a few different ways. The encounters that you get in your youth days from the cooperations that you have had with your family regularly reappears in your grown-up life connections that you have with others including the associations that you have in the business world. In that sense family turns into your first association, and your relatives become your first supervisory crew. It is your family life and childhood that influences the manners by which the pioneers react to the weights and the manner in which they carry on with their colleagues (Barry, 2015). My family childhood was to such an extent that where I had numerous kin and had numerous family members with whom I used to associate regularly, which I accept has helped me build up my relational abilities which I use as a pioneer moreover. The first occasion when I understood my authority potential was the point at which I figured out how to complete my first enormous undertaking in work much before the cutoff time and that task was a serious deal to organization execution and effectiveness. Besides, the venture was to change several thousand paper information to electronic information which I had the option to do with four individuals group and the timetable was two years and we completed it in only one year. Because of my drive, everything figured everything out. There I had the option to understand my initiative/compelling aptitudes. Qualities assume an exceptionally significant job in our lives. Other than accepting choices according to your qualities and methods of reasoning, perceiving and understanding a given circumstance at your work place regarding the qualities and ways of thinking of other colleagues is likewise significant. At the point when an individual can set up a connection between their very own qualities with those of their boss, at that point a ground-breaking association is made (Anonson, 2014). Instructing can likewise be an approach to shape the convictions of an individual with respect to initiative. For instance, The educator who I can say had transformed me, and my perspectives on authority were my English instructor. At the point when I was in sixth grade, there was an understudy in my group who was very timid to make some noise in the class, however Mr. King (English educator) indicated confidence in him and consistently urged him to talk regardless of whether he wasn't right. What's more, later on, that understudy turned into an excellent representative even at school level. At present concerning my expert work, I admire my chief who is one of the official, Mr. Abdullah as my good example for the most separate pioneer. The characteristics that I respect about him are that he focusses on quality. He not only focusses on his own qualities or the qualities of the organization, yet additionally puts forth attempts to improve the quality of others in the association too. Other than this, he has the characteristics of trust. As a HR expert or line chief, HR Competencies will assist me with becoming a superior head or supporter and improved my group viability. Prior, before the advancement of administration capabilities, initiative was believed to be an errand to be done distinctly at the top level in the association. Just the senior level individuals in the association had the option to take choices and impact all in the association (Shanafelt, 2015). In spite of the fact that, by the progression of authority skills, it is presently turning into a basic part in each degree of the association and not simply by the upper-administration. Initiative capacity that I had the option to show while working with my group was being well mannered and amicable with my colleagues, and that gave me the favorable position to have a superior correspondence with them and to be opened to sort any misconception that may occur. The Challenges and issues that I looked in my authority were that however I was preferred among my colleagues yet because of this casual holding, I came up short on that regard that as a pioneer I ought to get and furthermore individuals used to underestimate my requests. In any case, when I face this issue, I began dealing with the approaches to defeat it. What's more, for that reason, I instead of empowering casual interchanges, fired taking up week after week formal gatherings with all individuals. Race and sexual orientation additionally some of the time affect authority. At the point when a female is given the situation of a pioneer, numerous male colleagues will not follow her thoughts. Likewise some of the time individuals don't help out their pioneer based on his nationality or standing. Morals assume a significant job in initiative. Here and there initiative spots representatives in trading off positions which can bring about disappointment and in this manner can totally discolor an associations picture and mission. In this manner, pioneers must take morally address choices in the association. On taking my self-appraisal test, I got 37 focuses as a pioneer, which shows that I am a cooperative person who appreciates working in the group. After my own encounters of filling in as a pioneer and a devotee, I have seen two elements of followership which are competency and relationship. Competency requires cooperating with other people by breaking down them as a wellspring of work. While relationship requires building trust and improving correspondences. While as a decent pioneer, your qualities are showing restraint, sure, a good example and being well mannered to all. Utilizing these qualities when your playing out the administration or followership job will improve the unwavering quality of your job and your piece of any group. Subsequent to surveying my own encounters, I can say that supporters can either represent the moment of truth the pioneers by impacting the manner in which the objectives are accomplished. Being a decent adherent methods you assume liability to back your initiative with any help they should be on the correct way and above all remained them on the off chance that they lose their tracks. By being a decent devotee, you dont truly must be a sheep and follow aimlessly to the pioneer, but instead you should build up those abilities of a decent adherent which will assist you with improving as a pioneer (Derler, 2014). Along these lines, my future objectives would incorporate turning into a decent adherent to turn into a good example when following moral administration with regards to being a pioneer. In this manner, it can at last be inferred that followership is only the perfect representation of administration and turning into a decent devotee won't let you down rather will help you in turning into an incredible pioneer. Likewise, administration is wasteful without acceptable adherents. References Barry, T. R. (2015). Top 10 characteristics of a venture supervisor Anonson, J., Walker, M. Investigation of 2010 Old Spice Campaign Presentation This exposition means to break down the 2010 Old Spice Campaign which started with the arrival of the â€Å"Man Your Man Could Smell Like† business and getting done with the intelligent â€Å"Response† battle. The initial segment of the exposition will clarify about the brand Old Spice and the solid rivalry it confronted which brought about Old Spice changing their image picture. The second piece of the paper will clarify the 2010 Old Spice battle in detail by clarifying the justification behind its origination, its starting and its crowd gathering, which was additionally supported by the starting of the â€Å"Response† crusade. The third piece of the paper intends to examine the campaign’s by and large adequacy regarding an expository setting and a crowd of people, market and social setting. At long last, the paper finishes up by clarifying the effect and generally speaking importance of the battle. Old Spice Old Spice is a notable brand of male preparing items that has been around since 1938 and was obtained by Proctor and Gamble (PG) from the Shulton Company in 1990, who before long moved its intended interest group from the more seasoned age of 40 to multi year olds, to concentrate on the more youthful age of 13 to multi year elderly people men. Old Spice before long developed in unmistakable quality after PG discharged a few new items under its image that developed to become pioneers in the market, similar to its men’s antiperspirant line (Belch and Belch, 2012). Issue Be that as it may, by 2003 rivalry emerges from the Unilever Ax brand, who are advertise pioneers in Latin America and Europe. Axe’s publicizing efforts depended on intriguing pictures of provocative lady and suggestive slogans (Belch and Belch, 2012). By 2009, solid rivalry have brought about Old Spice falling behind and large misfortunes in piece of the overall industry. When of the 2010 Super Bowl, Unilever would start a battle for Dove Men’s body wash during the occasion, which along these lines tried Old Spice to move center back to them so as to support deals and hinder further misfortunes in piece of the pie (Gold Effie Winner, 2011). Statistical surveying Extreme rivalry from Ax provoked Old Spice to rejuvenate their image picture so as to keep up, and along these lines moved toward promoting organization, Wieden + Kennedy (W+K) so as to accomplish it. Research done by W+K found that Old Spice’s target crowd of the 13-to 34-year-old guys were puzzled from the numerous kinds of body prepping items. The intended interest group was very pulled back to invest energy and investigate the choices altogether, considering them excessively confounding, too refined, or honestly â€Å"unsuitable for them†. Most men likewise see body wash just like a female item which is pointless for them to utilize. Old Spice additionally did not have a masculine picture and has the fixed view of being utilized by elderly folks individuals, which didn't bid a lot to their intended interest group of more youthful age guys. The outcomes incited W+K to migrate Old Spice as the simple, manly decision for genuine men in the midst of the confounded, swar med and befuddling, body item class (Belch and Belch, 2012). Battle In February 2010, Old Spice discharged the â€Å"Man Your Man Could Smell Like† battle. Goals: The primary goal for this promoting effort was to change the impression of Old Spice being the result of the person born after WW2 age so as to fit and offer with Old Spice’s new objective crowd of more youthful men, which brought about the making of the â€Å"Old Spice Guy† (previous NFL athlete, Isaiah Mustafa). Target Audience: In spite of the focused on market of the Old Spice item being men matured 13 to 34 years, the battle focused on ladies rather as research uncovered that most buys with respect to body purging made by men were chosen by their female partners. Old Spice chose to straightforwardly connect with ladies by revealing to them that â€Å"I am the man your man could smell like†, which would provoke them to buy Old Spice all together for their male partners to possess an aroma like the Old Spice Guy. The point was to start a conversation among ladies and men about the advantages of having manly smelling body wash (Old Spice) for men over â€Å"female-scented† brands (Gold Effie Winner, 2011). Business: A 33 second video was shot highlighting Isaiah Mustafa as the â€Å"Old Spice Guy† clarifying the advantages of utilizing Old Spice over â€Å"lady-scented† body wash brands. Depiction of business as follows: The Old Spice Guy faces the camera and welcomes the ladies, wearing only a shower towel, inciting the watcher (for this situation, women) to take a gander at their male partners and back to him a couple of times so as to think about their allure. He presumes that sadly, their male partners don't appear as though him however an option is, that they can possess a scent like him when they quit utilizing woman scented body wash and change to Old Spice. The set at that point advances easily to a pontoon out adrift, wherein he holds up a shellfish that contains, â€Å"two passes to that thing you love†, before transforming into numerous precious stones streaming down from his hand, and afterward shouting again that, â€Å"anything is conceivable when your man smells like Old Spice and not a lady†, while the Old Spice item emerges from the jewels, before the camera pulling back and uncovering that he’s on a pony (Old Spice, 2010). Dispatch: It was concluded that the video would be discharged via web-based networking media stages, as opposed to the Super Bowl. W+K accordingly made sure about web crawler catchphrases that would guide clients to the business while looking for Super Bowl ads so as to produce buzz. The video was before long discharged on YouTube on February fourth, 2010, preceding going on TV before long. Old Spice’s site and web-based social networking pages was adjusted so as to adjust to the business. The site showed visuals of young guys taking an interest in different â€Å"masculine† exercises. Their Facebook and Twitter pages likewise highlighted pictures of the â€Å"Old Spice Guy†. Print advertisements additionally went with the discharge. Post-dispatch, the notices intended to satisfy another standards which is: getting guys and females to begin discussions about the crusade. The media purchase was in this way focused on situations where people would see it together. Models like American Idol, the Winter Olympics, the TV show Lost and above all, in films during the few days of Valentine’s Day. Before long, the battle turned out to be progressively across the board and mainstream, accomplishing a great many perspectives and different spoofs. The â€Å"Old Spice Guy† additionally showed up on syndicated programs like Oprah and Ellen DeGeneres. The battles prevalence, brought about the â€Å"Response† crusade, an occasion which continued for two days, in which the â€Å"Old Spice Guy† recorded more than 186 individual video messages to web clients who posted remarks about the business via web-based networking media stages, which was then transferred on the web (Wieden Kennedy New York, 2010). Gathering: *Both Sources from Golden Effie Award, (2011) As appeared in the pie graph above, Old Spice figured out how to accomplish its essential goal of the crusade by ruling on the web discussions about body wash with 76% of the dominant part share all through the time of January and March, 2010. By April, â€Å"The Man Your Man Could Smell Like† video gathered in excess of 10 million perspectives on YouTube, which was in excess of multiple times the measure of perspectives collected for Dove’s Super Bowl business (Wieden Kennedy New York, 2010). The â€Å"Response† crusade arrived at 20 million perspectives on YouTube in only three days, and Old Spice’s web based life following expanded considerably. After the â€Å"Response† crusade, adherents expanded about 2700% and 60% for Twitter and Facebook individually. YouTube supporters expanded from 65,000 to 150, 000, just as traffic to the Old Spice site expanding up to 300%. As appeared in the chart above, deals of Red Zone Body Wash likewise expanded up to 125% from the hour of the campaign’s dispatch to July 2010. Old Spice before long turned into the main All-Time Most Viewed marked channel on YouTube. (Wieden Kennedy New York, 2010). Own View Old Spice prevailing with regards to reviving its picture by including a young, manly and charming intrigue to its character and picture. It likewise settled a positive notoriety for itself through the commercial’s utilization of funniness by turning out to be, â€Å"the brand with humorous commercials†. Crowds will currently promptly accept that future Old Spice ads will be engaging and consequently will focus on them. This has permitted Old Spice to break liberated from the horde of different plugs and prompts crowd to concentrate on the messages. Albeit resulting plugs may not be as intriguing or influential, crowds are still liable to be careful for any Old Spice notices anticipating diversion. The commercial’s humor was adequately acceptable and enough too. Old Spice Guy’s misrepresented manliness was the perfect measure of amusing to animate the viewer’s comical inclination. The Response crusade was likewise splendid inside and out as it consi dered higher intuitiveness and a genuine personal commitment and relationship with the intended interest group just as giving quality diversion esteem. Logical Analysis This area means to give a logical examination of the first â€Å"Man Your Man Could Smell Like† business video (Old Spice, 2010). The battle targets ladies, subsequently, Old Spice Guy at first delivers ladies so as to interest their craving of making their male partners increasingly alluring, in any case, he in a roundabout way targets shaky guys who themselves need to BE progressively appealing to ladies, which is the product’s fundamental objective crowd. Developing The Anti Tobacco Smoking Campaigns English Language Essay

Building up The Anti Tobacco Smoking Campaigns English Language Essay Indian ladies are among the most noticeably terrible on the planet with regards to smoking. As per the most recent Tobacco Atlas, the nation positions third in the main 20 female smoking populaces over the globe.â Just the US with 2.3 crore female smokers and China with 1.3 crore ladies smokers are more terrible off than India. Tobacco utilization in India asserts in excess of 800000 lives every year. Comprehensively the quantity of smokers is required to ascend to 1.7 billion by 2020. 90% of the smokers in the nation begin smoking before they are 24 years of age. A large portion of the male tuberculosis passings in India are brought about by smoking. In the case of smoking is unchecked, by 2020, a large number of individuals in India will become standard smokers. The greater part of them experience their first puff before accomplishing the age 18. What is most upsetting is the consistent ascent in the quantities of youngsters, some of them as youthful as 14 or 15 years. Out of the 1000 adolescents who smoke, in any event 500 have been found to kick the bucket of tobacco-related illnesses. In USA, the drop in smoking has been credited to various reasons a developing mindfulness about the wellbeing harming impacts of smoking, rising cigarette costs, rising cigarette charges, forceful enemy of smoking efforts and a decrease in the social adequacy of smoking. Grievous Effects of Smoking Smoking inclines to oral, lung, and different malignant growths. Smokers are bound to experience the ill effects of hypertension and to encounter a coronary episode or stroke. Smokers are additionally at expanded danger of unsettling influences extending from dental caries to osteoporosis. Ladies smokers are bound to have premature births. Their kids are bound to have conduct issue. Non-smokers, who consistently breathe in tobacco smoke, additionally endure higher clinical hazard. An investigation of a large portion of a million Americans who were followed-up for a normal of nine years, demonstrated that the danger of death was multiplied in smokers. *As numerous as 2200 Indians quit smoking each day by biting the dust. Tobacco is the subsequent significant reason for death on the planet. 40% of the malignant growth distinguished in India, is a result of tobacco use. With each cigarette, you ingest a stunning 4700 synthetic compounds, 42 cancer-causing agents or disease causing substance. One cigarette and one beedi lessen seven minutes of your life. Around Rs.27000 crores as far as social insurance expenses and lost gainfully. One parcel of Pan Parrag or Hans lessens four minutes of your life. It causes sexual impotency in men, unsuccessful labor and barrenness in ladies, wrinkled skin, recolored teeth, terrible smell, mouth ulceration and trouble in gulping. Each organ in the body is influenced from head to toe, particularly the cerebrum, lungs and cardiovascular failures, ceaseless hack and lung malady, declined state of diabetes, pulse and lower endurance. Infants destined to moms who smoke can be more, incredible, or have more diseases of the center ear, hacking and wheezing. Tobacco-related causes lead, each year in India, to 20000 removals other than startling sicknesses like lung/oral disease, stroke and heart issues and more than eight lakh passings contrasted with 60000 from street mishaps. Cause issues to family, companions and associates from the smoke from the cigarette presenting them to similar risks. This is called recycled smoking. In this way, it is very obvious that smoking is a significant issue India is confronting today esp. the young people of India. Target Segment As referenced before, females by and large beginning smoking in their late teenagers. In this way, my crusade would focus on the young ladies who are in the age gathering of 16-24 years. Mentality towards Smoking Young ladies who smoke experience not many perceptible symptoms (well nothing genuine enough to spur stopping as once huge mob), in addition to the fact that they lack the inspiration to stop; they are additionally remarkably skilled at making provisos to evade antismoking messages coordinated at them. An examination of different research indicated that the three primary escape clauses were: Smoking is only one of the numerous dangers throughout everyday life Youthful smokers make a differentiation between prompt, individual purposes behind surrendering and progressively remote, official reasons, for example, long haul wellbeing dangers (for example lung disease) which appear to be less important. The dangers of smoking are excessively far later on to stress over at this point Youthful smokers have no significant feeling of their own mortality and live particularly in the present time and place. Antismoking messages are excess everyone realizes smoking is  bad for you To be successful, the antismoking message must feel like new news. Arranging the Anti-Smoking Campaigns The organizer needed to invade the universe of the youthful female smoker to locate another edge, yet how?â We expected to work from the back to front, our beginning stage being our objective, from its own place of view.â We would discover our objectives shaky area and afterward discover a weapon to coordinate a pertinent transient negative impact of smoking that would hit them where it would have the most effect.â Teenwatching For a while, the organizer would watch the objectives projects and films, read their magazines, frequented their hang out spots and shopped where they shopped.â Part of this organizers technique investigate included teenwatching (for example watching and communicating with our objective in its own condition, as one of them) in different McDonalds on Saturday evenings. Meetings with editors of driving youthful womens magazines A significant and personal connection exists between youthful womens magazines and their readers.â These magazines demonstration nearly as closest companion and offer conversation and guidance on everything from what to wear and how to pull to self-perception and passionate problems.â For the lowdown on the best way to get much nearer to our objective, the organizer would flame broil the editors of magazines with huge (female) youth profiles. System situating research We have to locate a believable, important and convincing message that conveyed a transient negative impact of smoking. The key understanding of our objectives shaky area Because of the over, three key focuses became clear:â There is no extension for even a trace of a prescriptive simply state no antismoking message. This gathering, young ladies, will just react to messages that offer (or appear to offer) them an educated choice.â This is a piece of their affirmation of freedom and their dismissal of anything that originates from individuals who belittle them and couldnt perhaps comprehend being them. Appearance (and from this, positive confidence, young men, sex and friend  group acknowledgment) is the key distraction Young ladies are incredibly worried about their appearance (genuine and perceived).â When it goes to their appearance (skincare, make up, garments, hair and so forth ) this gathering appear to be trains potters of the first order.â They are data hungry and, when perusing their magazines, they are eager to crash through sections of land of pictures, outlines and delicious detail to find whats new and valid in the realm of skincare, hair care and by and large picture creation.â Credible data learned here goes into the grapevine and can immediately become gotten knowledge inside the companion gathering. Youthful womens positive relationship with smoking (beside peer bunch acknowledgment) are for the most part to do with appearance: At the point when you smoke you look advanced, unobtrusively sure, somewhat attractive, appealing and progressively like a grown-up The apparition of post stopping weight gain was, for some, young ladies, seen as more significant and quick than malignant growth. Malignant growth may occur later on, you cannot see it yet the weight you can see it now and you need to live with it We would need to converse with these young ladies about something that was really critical to them now (not exactly what we think ought to be essential to them)their looks.â A methodology that misuses our objectives uncertainties about their appearance, utilizing the logical language of beautifying agents, could work Youthful female smokers accept that the momentary negative impacts on appearance brought about by smoking is simply not believable on the grounds that, obviously, they couldn't perceive any unfriendly impacts occurring now. I propose a theory that a sound yet terrifying reality (smoking makes your skin more slender valid however likely unusable on the grounds that everybody in this somewhat little clinical investigation was more than 50 years of age) would catch our objectives creative mind and make a reason for concern where there recently was none (cf. messages from beautifying agents producers re: huge pores, poisons in the skin, clogged pores and sun cream).â Sufficiently sure, a considerable lot of the young ladies would take the skin slenderness story.â I accept young ladies would disguise the story and gave it their own implications that were pertinent to them now and that took advantage of their own individual tensions about the presence of their skin. There was a lot of nature with a wide scope of logical skincare terms (for example cell reinforcements, aminoacids, poisons and so forth) which was not especially amazing given this gatherings fixation and data hunger concerning appearance, when all is said in done, and skincare specifically.â This is the language of beautifying agents that makeup makers use to sell these young ladies increasingly more skin, hair and body products.â Each new item requires its own story loaded up with logical language to loan it credibility.â The Story Each cigarette contains 4000 poisons, a significant number of which the circulation system conveys straight into the structure of the skin.â The poisons in tobacco smoke cause the veins in the top layers of the skin to tighten in this way diminishing the blood gracefully there.â â It is the decreased blood flexibly which causes a decrease in the accessibility of oxygen (which is vital for every single living cell) and the expulsion of waste items, dead skin pieces, and so on which gives the fundamental condition to skin recovery. This would be startling stuff to the normal young lady who invests a lot of her energy and cash on a skincare system deserving of Cleopatra herself (face packs, purging, exfoliati

Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1434 Downloads: 10 Date added: 2019/08/07 Category Literature Essay Level High school Topics: Beloved Essay Did you like this example? Toni Morrisons Beloved is a novel set in 1873 Cincinnati, at the end of the Civil War. Beloved tells the Story of Sethe, a former slave. Sethe lives at 124 with her children two sons, Howard and Buglar, a daughter, Denver, and the ghost of her deceased daughter, known as Beloved. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Supernatural Elements In Beloved Novel" essay for you Create order Soon after the ghost starts to haunts their house, her sons run away, never to look back again. A while back, when Sethe was a slave, she sent her children away to live with her mom, Baby Suggs. A little while later, Sethe left the plantation, known as Sweet Home, to join her children and her mother. When the schoolteacher found out that Sethe ran away, he went to a mission to find her and bring her back to Sweet Home. When he confronted her, she took her kids and ran in the shed. She was about to attempt the saddest thing imaginable. Kill her kids. Sethe believed that she would rather see her children dead, than for them to live in bondage, as she did, all of their lives. She only succeeded in killing one of her children, her youngest daughter. She was only a baby, less than 3 years of age, but the baby endured some serious distress. An aspect that in most prevalent in Beloved presence of a supernatural theme. All of the characters are haunted by their past. Beloved is seen as another type of supernatural being, an energy and emotional vampire. Beloved sucks the heart, mind, and soul out of Sethe. She is the one who was beaten so badly her back is permanently scarred. She is the one who lived and escaped slavery. She is the one who murdered her child rather than return it to slavery. So, she is the one whose past is so horrible that it is inescapable. How can a person escape the past when it is physically apart of them? Sethe has scars left from being whipped that she calls a tree. She describes it as A chokecherry tree. Trunk, branches, and even leaves. Tiny little chokecherry leaves. But, that was eighteen years ago. Could have cherries too now for all I know (16). It is apt that her past is represented on her backsomething that is behind her, something she cannot see but knows that is there. Also, it appeared eighteen years ago, but Sethe thinks that it may have grown cherries in those years. Therefore, she knows that the past has attached itself to her but the haunting of it has not stopped growing. Paul D. enters Sethes life and discover a haunting of Sethe almost immediately. He walks into 124 and notices the spirit of the murdered baby: It was sad. Walking through it, a wave of grief soaked him so thoroughly he wanted to cry (9). The haunting by Beloved in its spirit form is stopped by Paul D. He screams God damn it! Hush up! Leave the place alone! Get the Hell out! (18). Beloved is the manifestation of a murdered two-year old in a 20-year old body. Her mind and actions speak as a child not an adult. Beloved has a very complex personality. Sethes first thoughts were that Beloved could be an ordinary woman who was locked up by a white man and never let out of doors. She was very baby-like. Incomplete speech. Clingy neediness. Baby soft skin. Emotional instability. Unbeknownst to Sethe, Beloveds spirit is fits the age the baby if she was still alive. She also has the same name as the name engraved on the tombstone. She first appears to Sethe soaking wet, as though newly born, and Sethe has the sensation of her water breaking when she sees her. Along with this, Beloved has prior knowledge about a pair of Sethes earrings. Beloved hums a song that Sethe previously sang to her children, she has a long scar under her chin where her death-wound would have been, and milk breath. Another interpretation of Beloved is a belief that the ghost is Sethes dead mother. Beloved has a unique smile and way of speaking and, the same traits of Sethes mother. In Chapter 26, Sethe and Beloved switch places. Beloved starts to act like the parent and Sethe as the child. This is evidence of supernatural. Usually a supernatural being likes to take charge, commanding what they want. On another hand, Beloved seems like she may stand for all of the slaves who made the passage across the Atlantic. She seems as if she may give voice to all of those who have been oppressed by slavery. Beloved is seen as a supernatural figure. Beloved represents the past returned to haunt the present. The characters interactions with Beloved are very complex. Specifically, Sethes interaction with Beloved. When Sethe refuses to put up with Beloved unacceptable behavior, they become locked in a very unhealthy destructive relationship. Sethe is paralyzed by her past. She decides to devote all her time and attention to making Beloved understand why she killed her. Beloved allows Sethe to tell the stories about her own feelings of abandonment by her mother, about the hardship she endured at Sweet Home, and what her motivations were for murdering her daughter. By engaging with her past, Sethe begins to learn about herself and the of her ability to live in the present. Beloved also inspires the growth of other characters in the novel. Although Paul D has a lot of hatred for Beloved, she allows him to love again. Denver automatically falls in love with Beloved. She sees her as a big sibling, someone to look up to. Soon enough, Denver discovers Beloveds crazy, obsessive, and temperamental behavior and leaves 124, attempting to get help from the community.   When Denver left 124, this started her social integration and of her search for independence and self-possession. By the end of the book, Beloved vanishes, but she is never truly gone. Her story, surprisingly, gives the community hope for a brighter future. She gives a chance to engage with the memories they have suppressed.   Beloveds character is seen as a ghost and of the use of the supernatural in symbolic, not only Sethes past coming back haunting her, but also slavery in general haunting an entire community.   Sethe is stuck, she cant move on from the trauma of murdering her daughter and her memories at Sweet Home. Beloved is the embodiment of Sethes past. Beloved will not be put to rest and move on to peace, and Sethe will not move on from her time warp to living in the present. The use of the supernatural adds on to the concept of slavery because tells us that the past of slavery in American history is haunting, the same way ghosts are immortal. The trauma caused by slavery is something that will not die, it might be dealt with, but it will never be forgotten. Beloveds ghostly presence shown in Morrisons novel, is to demonstrate to the reader that we can always be haunted by good and or bad decisions we make. Even though Sethe is being haunted, she is not the only one with problems. Beloved is dealing with her own issues. She cannot rest until she is at peace with herself. The ghost of Beloved connects with Sethes experiences. Sethe cannot get over her past fears until she faces them. The memory of Beloved would not go away and neither would the ghost. This is a prime example of how you cannot your past no matter how hard you try.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Beloveds spirit represents how the memories of slavery as a whole never fade. 124 was spiteful. Full of a babys venom. The women in the house knew it and so did the children. For years each put up with the spite in his own way, but by 1873 Sethe and her daughter Denver were its only victims. The grandmother, Baby Suggs, was dead, and the sons, Howard and Buglar, had run away by the time they were thirteen years old as soon as merely looking in a mirror shattered it (that was the signal for Buglar); as soon as two tiny hand prints appeared in the cake (that was it for Howard). Neither boy waited to see more; another kettleful of chickpeas smoking in a heap on the floor; soda crackers crumbled and strewn in a line next to the doorsill. (1.1) This excerpt from the novel tells just how powerful this supernatural being is and the massive amount of control that it had over everyone who stayed in 124. Supernatural is not something that we can always see or explain, but we can feel it.

Animal Farm, Czar Nicholas II, what do they have in common? The book Animal Farm by George Orwell is an allegory for the Russian Revolution. One allegory can be seen through Czar Nicholas II, who represents Mr.Jones. In Animal Farm the animals defeat and overthrow Mr.Jones, an inadequate farmer who mistreats his animals. The animals try to recover from the horrible reign of Mr.Jones, and the story is about how they live after overthrowing the farmer. Criminal Law Paper free essay sample

Case Summary Hence, in this case defendant Archie Dixon is the main suspect in a murder case that he and a friend killed a man just so they can sale his car, they beat the victim and tied him up and buried him alive. Suspect Dixon than took the victim birth and social security information and obtain identification in the victim name, after getting this personal information on the victim suspect Dixon than gained ownership of the car and sold the vehicle for $ 2,800. Dixon was not someone that never had any run-ins with the law; he was in fact someone that had many run-ins with the criminal justice system. After all many pieces of strong evidence came out during the investigation that is when suspect Dixon confessed to taking the victim information and stated that the victim gave him permission to sell the car. Suspect Dixon stated that he did not know where the victim was at and came up with a story that he may have left to another state. Suspect Dixon claimed that the police officers disregarded his rights during the interrogation and he feel that he was violated because when he asked for counsel he did not get any and the officers failed to Mirandize him when he was taken in for questioning in the investigation of murder. The Part That Interested Me Thus, the attention-grabbing part of this case was the fact that when suspect Dixon was being questioned on related issues within the case he was read his rights and he then confessed. He was later sentenced to death and the reason why this case caught my attention was because there are many individuals that claim police officers denied them of their Miranda rights. In many cases this has happened due to the fact that some officer’s make mistakes and forget to Mirandize the suspects before they start their initial interrogation. Another reason why this case caught my attention was because this case hit close to home for me, my brother was falsely arrested for a crime he did not commit and he was not read his Miranda rights. The only reason why my family and I feel that my brother was cleared of all charges was because once the officer’s said put your hand up, my brother place his phone in his pocket with my sister in law still on the phone. She just happened to record the conversation with her phone, thanks to the new technology that we have. In the whole recording it was not once that any officer’s read my brother his rights, they just stated that he was being charged for robbery and to make thing worse it was mistaking identity, the store manager even cleared him from a line-up. So this situation where officer’s fail to properly complete their jobs happens more than it should because this is something they should know when will ruin their case (Booby V. Dixon Supreme Court of the United States, 2011). Sources, Purpose Jurisdictions Moreover, the sources of this case was the fact that at one point within the interrogation about the victim’s car and his identification the officer’s did make a decision to not read the suspect his Miranda rights because they felt that the suspect will then be unwilling to talk with them again. Later on during the interrogation the officer’s did read suspect Dixon his rights and he continued to talk, so that mean the petition he filed will soon be thrown out because he was read his rights. Under the jurisdiction the Ohio Supreme Court declared suspects Dixon’s convictions, the court later found out that his confession to murder was admissible because that confession was admissible because that confession and his prior, unwarned confession to forgery were both voluntary was admissible because that confession and his prior, unwarned confession to forgery were both voluntary (Booby V. Dixon Supreme Court of the United States, 2011). Accomplice Liability Criminal Liability Furthermore, accomplice liability is defines as when a criminal is assist, encourage or counsels other individuals in the commission of a crime, all parties are all considered to be liable for the crime as well as the individual that committed the crime or crimes. Criminal liability is when an individual is convicted of a crime, the person must have committed a guilty act which is actus Reus and he had a guilty mind-set when he completed the act which is mens rea. This is when the suspect is considered to be liable in the court of law. Both relates to this case because suspect Dixon was criminal liability because he knew what he was doing and he had a guilty mind when he committed the crime, the suspect friend Mr. Hoffner was accomplice liable in my opinion because he was there when the suspect was murdered (Schmalleger, F. , Hall, D. E. , Dolatowski, J. J. 2010). Actus Reus Mens Rea In addition, actus reus is defined as a guilty (prohibited) act. The commission of a prohibited act is one of the two essential elements required for criminal liability, the other element being the intent to commit a crime. Mens rea is defined as having a mental state, or intent to commit a crime. Wrongful mental state is as necessary as a wrongful act to establish criminal liability, what creates a mental state differs depending on the wrongful action but for murder, the mens rea is the intent to take a life. This applies to this case because the suspect had the intent to take the victim life so he can sale his car, which is mens rea. Reference Booby V. Dixon Supreme Court of the United States. The First And Second Sins Essays - Adam And Eve, Bereshit

The First And Second Sins Aaron Weidenhaft 2-14-00 After the first sin man no longer has to love and serve God, but can do so with the option of going against Him. The implications of the sins of Adam and Eve and Cain ultimately define their importance. Without the first sin humanity could never truly show God obedience and love, but would instead be automatons of his will. Before they eat of the tree of knowledge, they have no choice of whether to disobey God or not, save eating from the tree. God, by not allowing them to eat from the tree, also does not allow them the knowledge to know any better than to eat it. The first sin also makes the second sin possible. Man would never have been tending flocks and working to get food from the earth had Eve and Adam not eaten from the forbidden fruit. Jealousy was also a trait man would not have without the ability to tell good from bad. Cain's sin is also more than just an act of jealousy. By God giving Cain such harsh punishment, the readers of the bible are treated to just how seriously t he bible goes against murder. Had the first murder not been chronicled and dealt with, murder may not have had the baneful reputation the Christian and Jewish religions have given it. Neither sin is unimportant for these reasons, but the first sin is more important. This makes the love of God genuine as opposed to Adam and Eve being robots of God before the fall of humankind. The motives for the first sin all rely on Eve listening to the serpent. The serpent piques her curiosity in the tree by saying the tree will make her and Adam like God. After the serpent has given her a reason to want to eat from the tree, Eve makes up other reasons it would be okay to eat from it. When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it, (Genesis 3:6) the reader can clearly see here that Eve makes up other excuses for wanting to gain wisdom from the tree. The other motive is also the responsibility of the snake: he said to Eve that she would not surely die, even though Eve tells the serpent that God told her she would if she ate or touched of the tree. A blatant lie like that being told to someone who cannot know the difference between good and bad should remove the blame of the first sin on Eve's shoulders. The motives for the second sin are somewhat less obvious than the motives behind the first. Cain is firstborn and the tiller of soil, while Abel, his younger brother, is the caretaker of the animals. When the two makes offerings to God from their professions, fruits of the soil and fat portions of the firstborn of the flock respectively, God looks with favor on Abel and without favor for Cain's offering. This makes Cain very angry and so God has a little talk with him telling him that as long as he does what is right, tilling the soil in this case, then everything will be alright. God then says that if he does not do what is right sin is crouching at your door (Genesis 4:7). Cain is extremely hurt by the rejection he experiences at God's hands, and God simply telling him that he will be accepted is not good enough for him. Cain is extremely jealous and desiring of Abel's favored position in God's eyes. God not favoring Cain's offering was to be expected, however. When Adam and Eve we re cast out of Eden, one of the consequences was that he cursed the ground. Naturally God is not going to look with favor on an offering he cursed himself. Therefore, the only way Cain can see to get in God's favor is take his brother's job, since his job will never be pleasing to God. A clear pattern is seen for the motivations of both sins here: desire. Eve desires to be more like

Learn the Pros and Cons of Ethanol and Its Production

Learn the Pros and Cons of Ethanol and Its Production Ethanol is simply another name for alcoholthe liquid made from the fermentation of sugars by yeasts. Ethanol  is also called  ethyl alcohol  or  grain  alcohol  and is abbreviated as EtOH. In the context of alternative fuels, the term refers to an alcohol-based fuel that is blended with gasoline to produce a fuel with a higher octane rating and fewer harmful emissions than unblended gasoline.  The chemical formula for ethanol is CH3CH2OH. Essentially, ethanol is ethane with a hydrogen molecule replaced by a  hydroxyl radical,OHwhich is bonded to a  carbon atom. Ethanol Is Made from Grains or Other Plants No matter what it is used for, ethanol is produced by processing  grains such as corn, barley, and wheat. The grain is first milled, then fermented with yeast in order to transform the grains starches into alcohol. A distillation process then increases the ethanol concentrations, such as when a liquor distiller refines whiskey or gin through a distilling process. In the process, waste grain is produced, which is usually sold as livestock feed. Another by-product, the carbon dioxide produced,   can be used in other industrial applications.  Another form of ethanol, sometimes called bioethanol, can be made from many types of trees and grasses, although the fermentation and distilling process is more difficult. The United States produces close to 15 billion gallons of ethanol a year, mostly in states close to large-scale corn growing centers. The top producing states are, in order,   Iowa, Nebraska,   Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana, South Dakota, Kansas, Wisconsin, Ohio and North Dakota. Iowa is by far the largest producer of ethanol, producing more than 4 billion gallons a year.   Experiments are underway on the possibility of using sweet sourgum as a source of fuel ethanol, which can be grown with only about 22% of the irrigation water required for corn. This may make sourgum a viable choice for regions with water shortages.   Blending Ethanol with Gasoline Blends of at least 85 percent ethanol are considered alternative fuels under the Energy Policy Act of 1992. E85, a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline, is used in flexible fuel vehicles  (FlexFuel), which are now offered by most major auto manufacturers. Flexible fuel vehicles can run on gasoline, E85, or any combination of the two. Blends with more ethanol, such as E95, are also premium alternative fuels. Blends with lower concentrations of ethanol, such as E10 (10 percent ethanol and 90 percent gasoline), are sometimes used to increase octane and improve emissions quality but are not considered alternative fuels. A good percentage of all gasoline sold now is E10, containing 10 percent ethanol.   Environmental Effects A blended fuel like E85 produces less carbon dioxide, the single most important greenhouse gas responsible for climate change. In addition, fewer volatile organic compounds are emitted by E85.   Ethanol  is not without its environmental risks, however, because when burned in internal combustion engines, it produces significantly more formaldehyde and other compounds that can increase ground levels of ozone.   Economic Benefits and Drawbacks Ethanol production supports farmers by offering subsidies to grow corn for ethanol, thereby creating domestic jobs. And because ethanol is produced domestically, from locally grown crops,   it reduces U.S. dependence on foreign oil and increases the nation’s energy independence On the flip side, growing corn and other plants for ethanol production requires a lot of farmland, monopolizing fertile soil which instead could be used to grow food that might feed the worlds hungry. Corn production is especially needy in terms of  synthetic fertilizer and  herbicide,  and it frequently leads to  nutrient  and  sediment pollution. According to some experts, the production of corn-based ethanol as an alternative fuel  may end up requiring  more energy than the fuel can generate, especially when counting the high energy costs of synthetic fertilizer production.   The corn industry is a powerful lobby in the U.S., and critics argue that corn-growing subsidies are no longer aiding smaller family farms, but are now mostly of benefit to the corporate farming industry. They argue that these subsidies have outlived their usefulness and perhaps should be spent on efforts that more directly affect the public welfare.   But in a world of dwindling fossil fuel supplies, ethanol is an important renewable alternative which most experts agree has virtues that outweigh its drawbacks.

The plight of the homeless in the United States Essay

The plight of the homeless in the United States - Essay Example In the United States, de-institutionalization of mentally ill population in the late 1970s and cuts in housing and social services in 1980s contributed to homelessness (Donohoe). According to National Alliance to End Homelessness, in January 2005 around 744,313 people were homeless (National Coalition for the Homeless). According to the statistics of National Law Centre, around 700,000 to 2 million people are homeless in America on a given night (Policyalmanac). The estimates of National Alliance to End Homelessness highlight that around 22 people out of every 10,000 people are homeless and on any given night in the United States, 671,859 people are homeless, in which 37 percent are families and 63 percent are individuals (National Alliance to End Homelessness). Between 2007 and 2009, family homelessness in the United States has increased by 30 percent and this percentage is expected to increase further (National Public Radio). The statistics show that homelessness in the United Stat es has actually become a serious concern for the economy. The number of homeless people in the United States is increasing rapidly and various factors are contributing to this increase. The typical reasons which may contribute to homelessness include disturbance in family support systems, natural disasters, civil wars, impact of structural adjustment activities and urbanization however, two major causes of homelessness in the United States include decline in affordable rental housing and poverty (Vickery, Williams and Lugo). The president of National Alliance to Homelessness, Nan Roman argues affordable housing crisis is the primary driver in homelessness and this problem cannot be solved unless the crisis is addressed (USA Today). In short, the problem of homelessness cannot be solved unless the root causes of the problem are addressed. Homelessness in the United States is significantly affecting the overall economy. Optimism and Health Benefits Essay Example for Free

Optimism and Health Benefits Essay â€Å"Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.† This quote from Victor Hugo is a perfect example of optimism. When someone is optimistic, they have a disposition or tendency to look on the more favorable side of events or conditions and to expect the most favorable outcome. Optimism is simply a mental game. The brain can interpret situations or events as being optimized; meaning that some factors may not be fully comprehendible, yet having confidence that the present moment is in an optimist state. This understanding, although criticized by counter views such as pessimism, realism, and idealism, leads to a state of mind that believes everything is as it should be. With optimism, someone contains hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something. Not only does optimism give someone confidence, it also provides many health benefits and a sense of purpose in life. â€Å"Is your glass half empty, or half full?† This saying is a common idiom that illustrates optimism versus pessimism; an optimist is said to see the glass half full, and a pessimist sees the glass as half empty. Winston Churchill provides another unique understanding of this idea: â€Å"The optimist sees opportunity in every danger; the pessimist sees danger in every opportunity,† The defining characteristic of pessimists is that they tend to believe bad events will last a long time, will undermine everything they do, and are their own fault. The optimists, who are confronted with the same problems of the world, think about misfortune in the opposite way. They tend to believe defeat is just a temporary setback. Provoked by a bad situation, they perceive is as a challenge to try harder. If the thoughts that run through one’s head are mostly negative, their outlook on life is more likely to be pessimistic. There is nothing better in life than having a peace of mind that no matter what the troubles are that life may bring, everything will be okay and that life has so much to offer. Unfortunately this peace of mind does not happen over-night, it takes years of trials and experience s to be able to see the bright side of any given situation. People are not automatically born with optimism; they have to experience negative circumstances in order to find the strength to be optimistic in general. Without hardships, optimism would not grow. Optimism often starts with self-talk. These endless streams of unspoken thoughts can either be positive, or negative. Optimism does not mean that one keeps their head in the sand and ignore life’s less unpleasant situations, it just means that the approach to the unpleasantness is in a more positive and productive way. With this approach to any given situation, stress can be reduced. Often time’s people upset themselves over something minute, causing a lack of sleep, unhealthy eating habits, hostile mood, etc. What they do not know is that with a simple thought of, â€Å"I can do this,† or â€Å"It will be okay,† their whole stream of thoughts eventually start following that positive pattern, changing their whole mood, reducing stress, and increasing their chances of overcoming obstacles. Not only does an optimistic view reduce stress, it also decreases the risks of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and infections. Optimism itself, not just its association with happiness, lowers anxiety, thus causing less hostility, and has the potential to lower the risk of a stroke. U.S. researchers followed more than 97,000 women for about eight years. Measures of optimism and cynical hostility were strongly associated with these outcomes: Optimists had a lower incidence of heart disease and total mortality. Conversely, cynical hostility, which is a lack of confidence and increased bitterness, was associated with both higher overall mortality and cancer-related effects. Along with positive health benefits, optimism also gives someone a sense of purpose. American psychologist, Salvatore Maddi, co-author of Resilience at Work: How to Succeed No Matter What Life Throws at You, extensively studied what makes executives tough in the face of work-related stress. He found that the healthiest of executives shared three characteristics: a feeling of commitment, a sense of control in their lives, and an acceptance of life’s stressful moments as challenges rather than threats. This research confirms that having a sense of commitment to a purpose does not merely give someone meaning; it makes them more resistant to the impact of stressful living. This view on optimism can increase one’s chances of succeeding their goals or dreams, and not allowing negative situations to hinder their attitude. With hopefulness that their goals will be achieved, their motivation is amplified as well. Optimism is a way of life that is not learned automatically, it takes time and effort to completely change one’s mindset. This mindset has many positive effects. A firm confidence in one’s self develops, and they have self-assurance that no matter what life throws at them, it is completely possible to overcome those obstacles. Optimists tend to believe that defeat is not their fault; circumstances, bad luck, or other people bring it about. Such people are unfazed by defeat. Optimism not only gives one confidence, but also provides a countless number of health benefits. With an optimistic attitude, depression can be reversed. Although it takes time to get out of a slump, just the start of positive self-talk can remove one out of despair. Positive self-talk also reduces stress and the chance of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and strokes. A sense of purpose also develops with someone who acquires an optimistic mentality. A sense of purpose does not only give someone meaning, it helps them to overcome the stresses that life brings. Optimism merely starts with a simple â€Å"I will be okay.† It takes small steps, but it is completely possible for one to change their outlook on life and not let circumstances defeat one’s life.

The Perversion of Dorians Soul in Oscar Wildes The Picture of Dorian

The Perversion of Dorian's Soul in Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The soul is thought to be an immaterial entity coexisting with our bodies which is credited with the faculties of thought, action, and emotion.   It is the part of our body which is believed to live on after the body dies.   In Oscar Wilde's, The Picture of Dorian Gray, the main character, Dorian Gray, destroys the innocence of his soul and becomes corrupt. He becomes corrupt by failing to live a life of virtue.   The main reason for his transformation can be attributed to a portrait painted of him that captured the true essence of his innocence.   This portrait is the personification of his soul.   At the beginning of the book Dorian makes a wish that inevitably changes his life forever.   His wish is that, "If it were I who was to be always young, and the picture that was to grow old!   For that - for that - I would give everything!   Yes, there is nothing in the whole world I would not give!   I would give my soul for that!" (Wilde, 40)   As Dorian's wish of staying young and beautiful forever come true so does the fact that he has given his soul away to the devil.   Another contributing factor to the perversion of Dorian's soul comes from his supposed friend, Lord Henry Wotton.   Lord Henry fills Dorian's head with his outrageous philosophies such as, "....youth is the one thing worth having. .... You have only a few years in which to live really, perfectly, and fully.   When your youth goes, your beauty will go with it..." (34) and "The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.   Resist it, and your soul grows sick with longing for the things it has forbidden to itself, with desire for what its monstrous laws have made monstrous ... ... that Dorian has become a dissolute and perverse man who cannot understand that vanity and the thrill of "new sensations" are not what run the world.    Works Cited    Cohen, Ed.   Talk on the Wilde Side.   Great Britain: Routledge, 1993. External and Internal Environmental Analysis Essay

An external and internal environment scan is necessary in developing a strategic plan for an organization. Longmont Housing Authority (LHA) needs to assess their internal and external environment to see a full view of their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats, and trends. In this paper, an internal and external competitive environmental scan for Longmont Housing Authority will be performed. An analysis of the most important external environmental factor in the remote, industry, and external operating environments is included. The most important internal strengths and weaknesses of the organization will be identified. It includes an assessment of the organization’s resources. Finally, the organization’s competitive position and possibilities will be assessed. External Environment Scan The strategic management model shows the external environment as three interactive segments: the remote, industry, and operating environments (Pearce & Robinson, 2011, p. 13). Economic, social, political, technological, ecological, and international environments affect how LHA formulates their strategic plans. In the economic environment, the company is affected by inflation, interest rates, population, and so on. The threat of depressed economy is always a factor in the success of Longmont Housing Authority. Their processes and strategies can be modified to fit the changes in the economy. Due to the changes in social factors such as beliefs, opinions, lifestyle, and preferences, the company can see the underlying trends, threats, and opportunities. An increase in population in Boulder County increases the demand for affordable housing. This is an opportunity that is open for LHA as they continue to do grow and development their organization. The increased threat of a growing population and lack of  affordable housing is an opportunity for the organization to find potential funding sources to expand their portfolio. Their new project is due to break ground next month. This is a 62 unit affordable housing for seniors. Flood victims will have priority on the waitlist for this property, due to the fact that the majority of the funding for this project came from a state flood recovery program. The increasing population is also a good opportunity for the organization because they will be able to justify the need for future housing projects that will be desperately needed in the future. Factors that more directly influence a firm’s prospects originate in the environment of its industry, including entry barriers, competitor rivalry, the availability of substitutes, and the bargaining power of buyers and suppliers (Pearce & Robinson, 2011, p. 110). However, LHA does not have to face tough competition in the housing industry. They are threatened by the threats of funding being pulled by Housing of Urban Development (HUD) or other private investors, who may find affordable housing an investment risk. Internal Environment Scan The organization has been gaining competitive advantages since their launch in 2014 of bringing the property management in house, opposed to hiring a 3rd party to handle the property management. These changes have improved staff development, improved agency financial stability, has streamlined processes, and as a result, they have developed effective policies. Because there is such a demand for affordable housing and very few investors wanting to get involved in this industry there is not much competition. LHA has been able to develop good working partnership with other Longmont agencies, to include the senior center, the police department, city council, Mental Health Partners, and other non-profits that assist the homeless and low income population. LHA’s Competitive Position and Possibilities Longmont Housing Authority is in a good competitive position due to the mentioned strengths and opportunities in the internal and external environment scan. It is highly possible that they will continue to lead in the affordable housing industry because of the focus they are providing to research and development. They can also avoid the threats and eliminate  competition by having experienced staff, and focusing on employee development. Conclusion Longmont Housing Authority is affected by the external and internal environment factors. Their strengths include their property portfolio (product) and processes. They are investing in development and they have a couple major housing projects in the works. They are threatened in the industry because of the threat of lack of funding and strict government regulations. If they will continue to push their initiative in discovering new ways to fund their projects, they can maintain or even improve their current performance. References Pearce, J.
